No Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Oatmeal Cookies

Our combined families have been making these cookies for a very long time and has been a favorite for over six or seven generations.

No Bake Chocolate Cookies With Peanut Butter and Oatmeal.  Mama used to call these cookies Circuit-Riding Preacher Cookies. Her grandfather, Hugh Buck McCann, was a methodist circuit-riding preacher in the 1800’s and he loved these cookies. She also said there must be something special about these cookies as we have a lot of preachers in our family.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup (1 stick) butter
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup milk
  • 4 Tbs cocoa powder
  • ½ cup peanut butter
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups quick-cooking oats

Directions:

  1. Set out ingredients and prepare a waxed paper area to drop cookies to.
  2. Add the butter, sugar, milk, and cocoa powder together in a medium saucepan. Bring to a rolling boil and let boil for one minute.
  3. Remove from heat. Immediately add peanut butter and vanilla.
  4. Stir until smooth.
  5. Stir in oats.
  6. Drop by heaping TBS onto waxed paper.
  7. Let cool until set. Store in airtight container.
