Our combined families have been making these cookies for a very long time and has been a favorite for over six or seven generations.
No Bake Chocolate Cookies With Peanut Butter and Oatmeal. Mama used to call these cookies Circuit-Riding Preacher Cookies. Her grandfather, Hugh Buck McCann, was a methodist circuit-riding preacher in the 1800’s and he loved these cookies. She also said there must be something special about these cookies as we have a lot of preachers in our family.
Ingredients:
- ½ cup (1 stick) butter
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup milk
- 4 Tbs cocoa powder
- ½ cup peanut butter
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 cups quick-cooking oats
Directions:
- Set out ingredients and prepare a waxed paper area to drop cookies to.
- Add the butter, sugar, milk, and cocoa powder together in a medium saucepan. Bring to a rolling boil and let boil for one minute.
- Remove from heat. Immediately add peanut butter and vanilla.
- Stir until smooth.
- Stir in oats.
- Drop by heaping TBS onto waxed paper.
- Let cool until set. Store in airtight container.
